Episode 67 - Unpacking Design Life - Session 13 // Mike's Mental Health Week
There are days when we just need a week off to focus on the art of doing nothing. This is probably one of the hardest things for any designer to do because our minds are always coming up with new fantastic ideas to pursue. What does a week off to focus on our mental health look like for Mike?
In this episode, Mike talks about his week off to do absolutely nothing related to design or work. Instead, he focused on letting his stream of consciousness go uninterrupted and did all the things he wanted to do. During his week off, Mike saw an opportunity to see one of his favorite authors, Austin Kleon, speak in Cleveland. So he signed up and took a trip from Buffalo to attend his lecture.
After seeing Kleon speak, Mike began brainstorming new ideas for how he wants to readjust his course for his blog, Evolving Architect. He’s interested in pursuing personal projects to showcase in his portfolio and sharing his process of designing his projects. This was influenced by Kleon’s books and speech about how designers need to share their work and remember to keep going.
Learn more about Mike’s mental health week and how it helped him come up with new ideas for his blog in this episode.
